40 Days Without Sugar or Chocolate: What's My Conclusion?
Last night I went to book club at Carol's home. Carol is a fabulous baker, and the theme was Halloween (I dressed up as The Lady of Milkweed Manor). Tasting her iced apple-spice cake was a must, and I wasn't disappointed. However, taking home the Halloween Trick-or-Treat bag was killer. Her homemade toffee was to dieee for. But, what I learned was that my very favorite roll out frosted sugar cookies don't thrill me anymore--and I'm a BIG frosting person, well, used to be-- because after 40 days of almost all vegan eating, frosted sugar cookies no longer taste like food to me. Cool. Even more exciting, my favorite See's balls, Lindor balls, Dove Bites, and Trader Joe's Truffle bars couldn't make up for missing lunch today--which is what I had to do to keep my daily Weight Watcher points in check (which really don't check out after consuming all that chocolate). Last, I finally had a bite of one of those JUMBO Pumpkin Mallows I'd bought for the church girls and then passed out the remainders to my tutoring students over the past week. Every day since I'd purchased them, those mallows had called to me--those big orange, billowy, pumpkins. Eh. When I finally gave in, I discovered they weren't much on taste, but I enjoyed my one bite, and that's the moral of this sugar-chocolate story. One bite is enough. Yet, on second thought, I still have my birthday gift certificate for See's Candy that a student gave me. Would I feel the same about a box of my favorite dark chocolate bordeaux? That's one test I might not pass, or want to! : )

Congrats on 40 days sugar free! I'm proud of you! And you're right. You do lose the hankering for it if you stay off it for this long. That way, the temptation isn't so powerful!
