AOL writer Bonnie McCarthy might be right about using a dryer sheet to dust off a computer screen, but take it from me—don't try anything more than a gentle sweep of the wrist.
I read McCarthy's July 31st article with glee this morning, hoping for a clean screen. First, I grabbed a used dryer sheet—one I couldn't quite throw away after I had pulled it out of a recent load. The used sheet still had lots of life. Then, after a few gentle rubs to my laptop, I decided the limp sheet might have taken off a few smudges, so I convinced myself to break down and use a fresh sheet straight from the box to attack the rest of the smears. BIG MISTAKE!
The new sheet left horrid marks that at first scared me into thinking they were—gasp—scratches. I quickly balled up the corner of a turquoise fleece blanket resting across my lap (Where was my lucky green fleece sweater? I'm wearing the blue today!) and began retracing the rubs over my laptop screen. Yes, it did remove those wicked streaks and curly stripes marked by the clean dryer sheet and left me breathing a sigh of relief.
My final thought? I'm still looking for a better way to clean my computer screen. What are your thoughts?
Last time I needed to clean my laptop screen, my husband looked up how that should be done and came up with a diluted alcohol solution and soft cloth. Just put some rubbing alcohol in a cup of water, I think it was about 20% alcohol to water, then dip a soft cloth in it and gently clean the screen. It worked well, got the smudges and didn't scratch.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Glad it wasn't scratched.
ReplyDeleteMe again. I do like the new look.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't tell me you have a blog!!! AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteWe use computer cleaning cloths at my work. At home, I do like you and use a piece of fleece. But this method is super fun...
